Dr Amar received his Bachelor of Science at McGill University, and then completed medical school at the University of Toronto.
Internal medicine and GI training were at the University of Toronto and at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
He then carried out 2 years of research in cellular changes in IBD related cancer risk sponsored by the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
Dr Amar moved to Vancouver in 1984, and has been on active staff at St Paul's Hospital and UBC since then.
His clinical practice includes all aspects of luminal gastroenterology, with an interest in therapeutic endoscopy.
He participates in clinical teaching at all levels, including the advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship.
