Dr. Telford completed a Bachelor of Science degree in honors physiology, a Medical Degree and an internal medicine residency at UBC. She then pursued a gastroenterology fellowship and an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Telford also completed her Master’s in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health. She has a general gastroenterology practice with a focus on EUS and ERCP. She is the Medical Director for the BC Colon Screening Program.

Dr. Telford’s areas of interest are outcomes in endoscopy and colorectal cancer screening. She has an interest in quality assurance in endoscopy and mentors GI trainees in research topics assessing procedure performance indicators, reporting and adherence to guidelines. Within the Colon Screening Program, Dr. Telford is responsible for examining the performance of the fecal immunochemical test and colonoscopy in a screening population as well as effects of screening on colorectal cancer incidence and mortality.  

Dr. Telford is involved in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows in general gastroenterology. She is also involved in the UBC advanced endoscopy fellowship, together with the other UBC advanced endoscopists, training two fellows each year in ERCP and EUS. Through her role in the Colon Screening Program, Dr. Telford has been involved in peer assessment and training.  She led the curriculum design and training of twenty-four physicians to perform Direct Observation of Procedural Skills on their colleagues performing colonoscopy. She is faculty for the St. Paul’s Hospital Skills Enhancement in Endoscopy courses.
